Norm Thompson is known nationally as a leader in corporate responsibility. Norm Thompson has been inducted into the Center for a
New American Dream's Green Mail Hall of Fame. Norm Thompson has also received the highly prestigious Corporate Award from the Ecological
Society of America in 2003; and was named the Direct Marketing Association's "Environmental Mailer of the Year" in 2001 and 2002.
Here are some examples of how Norm Thompson is giving back to the Environment.
Located next to a wetland that they are restoring to its natural state, their corporate headquarters was one of the first green buildings
in the nation. Completed in 1995, it's made from recycled materials and sustainably harvested wood, and was designed for maximum energy efficiency.
Within their corporate headquarters, they use only non-toxic, biodegradable cleaners, recycle as much as we can (including non-curbside items such as
batteries and light bulbs), and compost our food scraps.
Norm Thompson rewards associates who carpool or purchase a hybrid auto. A FlexcarTM is available during working hours for those associates who use mass
transit, walk, bike or carpool to work. They also provide free monthly bus and light rail passes plus shuttle service to the nearest train station.
Norm Thompson uses recycled paper whenever feasible. Their catalogs contain 10 percent post-consumer recycled content; their order forms are certified
to the strict sustainable forestry standard of the Forest Stewardship Council.
Norm Thompson donates 5% of our pre-tax profits to social service, educational and environmental causes. Among the organizations we support are:
SMARTŪ-Start Making A Reader Today. We are proud to be one of SMART's first corporate sponsors! This Oregon-based program provides books and reading
partners for elementary schools-and many of their associates volunteer during their lunch hours at nearby schools.
Raphael House-a shelter for victims of domestic violence. Every year several departments each "adopt a family" for the holiday,
fulfilling the families' Christmas wish list and providing necessities that enable them to start a new life.
Global Forest Watch-scientists and business partners coming together to protect the world's forests.
Dignity U Wear Foundation, Inc.-New Clothes for a New Life. This national foundation positively impacts the lives of children and
their families by providing them with brand new clothing-free of charge.
Norm Thompson fosters a culture of giving and our associates are among the most generous anywhere-more than 80% participate in their
annual giving campaign! And they match their donations to United Way and Earth Share.
Norm Thompson associates are also active in community service year-round-from SOLV beach clean-ups to our recent sponsorship of
the Oregon Zoo's Rabbit Romp. Norm Thompson also matches associates' volunteer hours (up to 2 days a year) with time off.
